Using Wildcard Characters in Excel



Do you know that use of Wildcards in Excel is possible?

We can use * and ? as wildcards in few formulas and functions to make our calculation much flexible. Let’s see how we can use it. Just look at the below screenshot of data we will use as an example.


Use of *

In this case we want
to do the sum of the sales amount of all the stores which contains “Mart” in the name. So for this we will use Sumif formula and put *Mart* as criteria.


Use of ?

If we want to do the sum of the sales amount of all the products which contains some common characters e.g. Coke, Cake. In this case we will use ? in criteria as C?ke.
